Restoration
I offer specialist refurbishment of Victorian conservatories and sash/casement windows.
Repairs might include replacing rotten sashes or building an entire new roof, which can include cast iron cresting. This has incorporated fitting modern rubber gaskets to traditional-looking, slender glazing bars. Details such as matching moulding styles would also make up part of a refurbishment.
Lime mortar wall repairs for vernacular architecture is also undertaken, often using flint, carrstone and monastic stone. This goes hand in hand with refurbishing older windows etc.
Other restorations carried out have included:
- An octagonal bell tower
- Lime mortar re-pointing of a church bell tower
- Limewashing church interiors
Maintenance
For Peace Of Mind
For peace of mind I also offer a periodic gutter clearing, roof check service. I would come to your home, clear the gutters and visually check the roof/exterior of your property. Any small problems can be put right there and then, with other defects being noted and reported back to you.
Every thing I make is bespoke or to order. I like to use traditional techniques such as draw boring or wedged mortice and tenons and am meticulous about using good quality materials.
I have worked on old buildings and enjoy restoring good quality small buildings, bell towers, conservatories, summerhouses etc. I have been keenly restoring and building my own barn conversion with modern extension, with many quality materials old and new, often re-claimed and usually locally sourced.
